You Decide When To Serve This Versatile French Toast

Say the words French toast and people’s eyes light up. I have yet to meet anyone that does not love this warm, comforting and sweet breakfast food.

But is it only for breakfast?

I have been making this French toast recipe for almost 15 years now and have brought it to many a brunch. The recipe, which was given to me by a friend, is actually made as a casserole, not individual slices of French toast. Typically, the host sets it out with the breakfast foods…scrambled eggs, bagels, bacon, etc. It is always the star of the show and draws…

I don’t celebrate the holiday but I have a great recipe for the best French toast casserole you will ever eat!

It’s ironic because although I don’t observe Christmas, my friends who do have made my recipe a Christmas morning household tradition.

Why? Because it is one of the best breakfast/brunch recipes out there. Anytime I serve it there is never any left and I am always asked how to make it.

It is quick and simple to throw together and is so versatile. …

Sure you could buy them at the store, but making them from scratch is so much better!

Yes, it takes a lot of effort to make potato latkes. Mostly because of the time it takes to peel and grate the potatoes and onions. For this reason, I have not made potato latkes for Hanukkah in years.

Ok, I’ll be honest. I have only made them once or twice in my life. When my kids were little my mother-in-law lived nearby and she would make them. So, as a busy working mom, I relied on her every year. And, she never did disappoint! They were thin, crispy, salty patties from heaven. …

And not one of them has avocado!

My husband eats the same breakfast every single morning — a bowl of cereal.

Monday through Friday he has Honey Nut Cheerios. On the weekends, he goes crazy and switches it up — sometimes he has Special K Choclatey Delight or Honey Bunches of Oats.

This has been his routine for over 25 years. How he can maintain this monotony is beyond me. I like a little variety in my life.

I go through breakfast phases. During the winter, I am an oatmeal girl. I cycle through a few different pre-made flavors, and then usually end up making some concoction…

Mulled wine is a comforting, cozy drink for winter entertaining.

Most people are familiar with mulled cider, but many people have never heard of mulled wine.

As the name suggests, mulled wine, also known as spiced wine, is very similar to mulled cider, except the main ingredient is red wine instead of apple cider.

With so much emphasis on gathering outside instead of inside, mulled wine is the perfect beverage to “warm-up” a small group if you plan on entertaining al fresco this year. And, if you have a fire pit, even better!

Here is the recipe I use:

If finding and using mulling spices seems intimidating, it's not. I…

Boyfriends come and go but your relationship with pecan pie is forever

I LOVE pecan pie, but I stopped eating it for 30 years. Why, you ask?

Funny story.

Well, not funny at the time, but funny now that I look back with my 50-year-old brain.

You see, when I was 15, I was dating a boy. He was my first serious boyfriend and we were inseparable. He and I shared a lot of common interests and one of them was food.

We were dating for about a year and a half and I truly thought I was going to marry him. Until the day after Thanksgiving in 1985.

For purposes of…

The word is terrifying but the process is SUPER EASY and the result is the juiciest turkey you will ever eat!

If I had to guess, you are probably reading this story because the word “brine” sounds overwhelming, complex and gourmet, but you have been mulling over the idea to try it.

This article is going to change your pre-conceived notion about this seemingly daunting process. And, if you decide to take my advice and brine your turkey this year, I know you will do it from here on out. I promise I am telling you the truth.

According to Wikipedia, brining is typically a process in which meat is soaked in a saltwater solution for 30 minutes to several days…

And everyone will LOVE it!

I think this recipe — or a variation of it — has been around forever. But, I was just introduced to it two years ago.

I am guessing it has been a staple at many a Thanksgiving table because once I tried it, I had to tell everyone about it. But, as soon as I did, half the people said, “Really, I’ve been making that for years!”

Regardless, it was new to me and only half the people said they had heard of it. So, I figured I would share it as it may be new to half my readers.

Will you have it as a side dish or as a dessert?

Usually, when you think Thanksgiving and sweet potato, your mind goes to pie. In my house, we ditch the crust and concoct a decadent casserole. It is so rich and sweet, it is served with our holiday dinner, but then the rest of the week is eaten as a dessert!

I am certainly not claiming I made up this delicious recipe. In fact, there are many variations on the internet. And, my mother-in-law is owed a tremendous amount of kudos for finding it and introducing it to us about 10 years ago. …

A rhyme for this crazy time

If anyone told me back in March

We would all have to stand six feet apart

Wear a mask when it was not Halloween

Scrub our hands super clean

That millions of people would die

And relatives couldn’t personally say goodbye

I’d laugh and say they’d lost their mind

But here we are — in a very dark time

Covid 19 has certainly rocked this world

Affecting every man, woman, boy and girl

Thrust upon all of us out of the blue

We looked to our leaders to know what to do

But, mixed messages were all we received
